Grab the kids and a blanket tonight for a magical celestial show.

A severe geomagnetic storm is set to light up the night skies with colors on Sunday night.

The spectacle could be visible as far south as Alabama and as far west as California Sunday night into Monday morning.

Acording to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Space Weather Prediction Center, people could see the colorful streaks of light across the sky across a wide swath of the country where the skies are clear.

The lights will likely be the brightest in northern states as far west as Washington State. They may also be visible in the middle latitudes, according to NOAA.

The northern lights, or aurora borealis, are streaks of light that shimmer in the sky most commonly in places close to the North Pole.

They most commonly appear in the skies over locations closer to the North Pole, and people travel to Iceland and Greenland to see them.
